- WELCOME TO “SPRINGTIME’S SPLENDOR” - April 1st to
May 1st, 2005
We are pleased to invite you to the current art exhibition
“Springtime’s Splendor” which is a contemporary group exhibition
celebrating spring’s lush abundance with scenes of nature,
landscapes, fruit, flowers and figures by local Canadian artists.
There are serene landscapes, floral scenes and passionate figures by Marilyn S. Mylrea. This exhibition also has
impressionistic flower paintings by Anees
Peterman which wonderfully reflect the spiritual beauty
of nature, and lyrical abstract landscapes by
Gregg Simpson. Mr. Simpson’s work has received
international recognition and he will be exhibiting in Europe this
June.
This show also features classical realism with paintings of fruit by Mark McDermott. Mr. McDermott is a uniquely
gifted artist with a deeply moving style. This exhibition includes
beautiful sensual paintings by Robert
Marshall, and tranquil photography by
Joseph Tillman, as well as exquisite ceramics by Kathleen Murphy.

MARCH - “Spring Moments” - March 1ST to March 27TH, 2005
We are pleased to invite you to the current exhibition “Spring Moments” featuring contemporary serene landscapes, flowers and figurative work by Marilyn S. Mylrea. Ms. Mylrea’s recent work has focused on the beauty of nature with the development of her abstract landscape painting.
This exhibition also features unique abstracts by the First Nation’s artist Shingwaak Kwe. As well, this show includes lyrical abstract landscapes by the renowned Canadian artist Gregg Simpson. Mr. Simpson’s work has received international recognition, and he will be exhibiting in France and Spain this June.
This show also displays still life classical realism by the wonderfully gifted artist Mark McDermott, vibrant blossom paintings by the creative artist William Meire and beautifully tranquil photography by Joseph Tillman, as well as elegant ceramics by Kathleen Murphy.

JANUARY - “CONTEMPORARY ART” JANUARY 2, 2005 – JANUARY 30TH, 2005
We are pleased to invite you to the current exhibition featuring contemporary spiritual and sensual paintings by Marilyn S. Mylrea including landscapes, abstracts, flowers, faces and figurative work. Ms. Mylrea’s recent works have focused on the beauty of nature with the development of her landscape painting. These works reflect the silent serenity of sky and water scenery.
This exhibition also features abstract mixed media work by the First Nation’s artist Janice Toulouse Shingwaak. Ms. Shingwaak is an accomplished artist who received her M.F.A. from Concordia University in l985. Her art has been included in numerous exhibitions including at the Burnaby Art Gallery and the Richmond Art Gallery. She also received the very prestigious award of Native Arts Fellowship from The National Museum of the American Indian, Smithsonian’s Institute in New York City in 2002. A painting entitled “From Manhattan to Menatay” dedicated to the Algonquin people of New York state was completed at the Hotel Chelsea and has inspired a group show in New York City for September, 2005.
As well, this exhibition includes beautifully tranquil photography by Joseph Tillman and exquisite, elegant ceramics by Kathleen Murphy.

This exhibition features paintings on a variety of subject matter including landscapes, abstracts, angels, flowers and figurative work. There are serene paintings by Marilyn S. Mylrea reflecting the beauty of nature and wonderfully colorful and detailed work by William Meire. Gregg Simpson’s paintings reflect a calm peacefulness and Janice Toulouse Shingwaak’s abstracts show a lucid fragility. Sherri Booth’s work is exotic and Joseph Tillman’s photographs have a solemn tranquility. Kathleen Murphy’s ceramics are elegant with soft green glazes and earthy tones. OCTOBER
& NOVEMBER - “The Spirit Of Masks” Exhibition
- Welcome to the Opening Reception on October 22nd
7- 10 p.m.
This is an exciting,
contemporary group exhibition featuring masks in a variety of
mediums including paintings, photographs, drawings, collages, mixed
media, wood and ceramic masks. It includes art by the

We are pleased to present the outstanding work of the acclaimed First Nation’s master carver Beau Dick. His wonderful carvings can be found in museums around the world. This exhibition includes expressive paintings by Marilyn S. Mylrea, and abstracted visions by the internationally known painter Gregg Simpson. It also features the amazingly complex work of the renowned Martin Guderna, and colorful imagery by Kal Opré. As well, there is exotic photography by Sherri Booth, and raku glazed ceramic masks by Miriam Aroeste. The brilliant poet and artist Rogue Murphy is presenting shadowy dark photo-collages, and Andrew Tong’s work features captivating drawings of babies with masks. This show is on from October 22nd to November 14th, 2004.

SEPTEMBER - Contemporary spiritual and sensual paintings by Marilyn S. Mylrea showing a variety of subject matter including flowers, landscapes, angels, faces and figures. The Gallery is pleased to also present work by Guest Artists Monte Christoffersen, Gregg Simpson and Kathleen Murphy. Monte Christoffersen is a Metis artist whose paintings depict dramatic faces of First Nations’ people. His work is powerfully profound as he captures the depth of spirit reflecting the human condition in these wonderful paintings. His work also includes famous First Nations’ people such as Sitting Bull and Red Cloud. Gregg Simpson’s paintings are vividly colorful and unique. Mr. Simpson has shown internationally many times and is known for his “lyric abstract” paintings and pastel drawings. Kathleen Murphy is a ceramicist who creates beautifully refined vases and bowls. Her glazes have subdued colors such as greens, blues, grays and blacks. Kathleen Murphy’s work reflects a simple and exquisitely elegant style.
JULY & AUGUST
- “THE SECRET GARDEN” - Welcome
to the Opening Reception on Friday, July 23rd 7 - 10 p.m.
The Marilyn S. Mylrea Studio Art Gallery is pleased to present Guest
Artists Georgina Lohan and Gregg Simpson in an exhibition featuring
contemporary paintings on nature and water sculptures. These
unique artworks create an atmosphere of peace amidst a lush garden.
Marilyn S. Mylrea’s
paintings depict flowers, landscapes, water and nature in a dramatic
and expressive style. Her work focuses on the serene
tranquility and sacred strength of nature. Gregg Simpson is
internationally known for his paintings and drawings, which come
from the abstract Surrealist, or ‘lyric abstract’ tradition.
While in France, he developed a special fascination with the Forest
of Fontainebleau which inspired this series of paintings. Mr.
Simpson is currently featured on a Bravo Television documentary
entitled “A New Arcadia, The Art of Gregg Simpson”. Georgina Lohan
creates beautiful water sculpture that merges the figurative with
the unusual. Working in ceramic and mixed media, imagery is
created that describes a female presence, challenging conventional
representations. This exhibition will be on from July 23rd
to August 22nd,
2004.

JUNE - “Contemporary Painting, Sculpture and Pottery” – Welcome to the Opening Reception – Saturday, June 18th, 2-6 P.M.
The Marilyn S. Mylrea Studio Art Gallery is pleased to present work by Guest Artists Bruce Voyce and Kathleen Murphy. Bruce Voyce’s sculpture is entitled “The Rebirth Series” and is an exploration of the human form. His unique figurative work reflects the power of the human spirit. Mr. Voyce’s sculptures include Spanish Alabaster stone carvings and mold making mixed media. They are purely beautiful and depict the importance of love, healing and rebirth as central themes of the human condition. Kathleen Murphy’s ceramic work wonderfully represents the beauty of form in a simple and eloquent manner. Her vases and bowls show a tranquil elegance, and her colors vary from deep black to subtle shades of green and gray. Marilyn Mylrea’s contemporary paintings explore the splendor of the divine in a dramatic and expressive manner. Her imagery includes angels, mysticism, masks, landscapes and faces. This exhibition will be on from June 18th to July 18th, 2004.

Artist - Derek Bollen. Mr. Bollen is a Canadian
artist living on Pender Island who specializes in dream and
visionary art. He has exhibited internationally around
the world, and most recently in Los Angeles.

APRIL - “Tibetan Tribute” –
Contemporary paintings by Marilyn S. Mylrea featuring
Spiritual Art with a
special tribute to the Tibetan people and culture in
celebration of the Dalai Lama’s visit to Vancouver.

APRIL 22ND
- A “Surrealistic Poetry Performance” by New York actor, poet and
artist Rogue Murphy. The piece is entitled “The Deaf Bathtub –
Stories From The Blue Forest”. The protagonist is drawn into a
lucid dreamlike world where he explores subconscious truths. Over
and over truths are played out viciously until he uncovers what he
believes to be is the true meaning of existence. The piece is
a series of poems united into one story. Rogue Murphy is an
accomplished professional actor who has performed in many plays and
movies. He is also a wonderfully creative writer and an
original gifted artist.
There will be two shows. One will be held at 7:30 p.m and the
other at 9:30 p.m. Each performance will be one hour with
an intermission in-between. Admission to the shows is free. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.
