Contemporary Artist Marilyn S. Mylrea - Portraiture Faces Masks - South Africa's Face

South Africa's Face
Oil on canvas   H. 40" x W. 30"  1989

Private Collection

“This painting was donated to the Coast Art Trust Society which is dedicated to
showcasing the art of art of British Columbia.”

PORTRAITURE, FACES & MASKS - This painting was created when Apartheid was happening in South Africa and Nelson Mandela was in prison. I’ve tried to show the horror of this injustice. The box like format was because I was seeing terrible images on T.V. The red drips represents the blood of violence and the black face symbolizes all of the African black people who were suffering.
