Honoring Youth In Celebration of Geraldine Dick
It was a great honor to do a commissioned painting for Beau Dick of his young daughter, Geraldine Dick. Beau is a Master Carver and is one of Canada’s most renowned and well respected major artists. He is represented by the Douglas Reynolds Gallery who represents the top Canadian First Nation artists. I had the pleasure of presenting this painting to Beau and Geraldine in October of this year when I attended a Potlatch in Alert Bay. It is a wonderful gift that Beau gave to his daughter and my congratulations to all fathers who are so caring of their daughters. Beau and Geraldine were both very happy with this painting and it was my pleasure to paint it for them. Please see below images of myself with Beau Dick in front of the longhouse in Alert Bay.
In Memory of Jessica States
In 1996, an 11 old girl from Port Alberni named Jessica States was raped and murdered. I read about her in a newspaper article and was inspired to do a painting of her because she had a very sweet face and her tragic death deeply moved me. The man who committed this crime has since been caught and is currently serving a life sentence in prison. Now, over ten years later, I had the honor and privilege of presenting this painting as a gift to Jessica’s parents Rob and Diane States in Port Alberni. Her parents were pleased with this painting and wish for the memory of their beloved Jessica to continue on. They honored me with a wonderful photograph of Jessica as below where you can see her sweet spirit.
