Kurt Stachow was born in Bromberg, Germany in 1944.
Misfortune struck at the early age of fourteen upon the
sudden death of his parents. Being orphaned along with his
sister, he showed tremendous courage and immigrated to live
with his uncle in Calgary, Alberta. He later became an
electrician, yet diligently immersed himself in his art
making at night producing exquisite drawings, paintings and
sculptures. He met his wife Helga in Calgary and became the
father of two boys. In l979, they moved to Vancouver and
Kurt continued his love of painting. His paintings are
realistic with wonderful details. In 1988, he studied soap
stone carving which became his true passion. He has since
then created numerous soapstone and alabaster sculptures.
Kurt’s amazing sculptures are wonderfully elegant with
simple forms and contours. His work engages the senses with
beauty that’s experienced through both sight and touch
simultaneously. It’s art that you can feel. Kurt’s art has
been collected internationally by both private and corporate
collectors all around the world. |
