Gallery Artists - Lawrence McCarthy

Lawrence McCarthy grew up in Winnipeg and has since made his home in Vancouver for the past thirty years. In the late 1970’s he took the Fine Arts Diploma program at Langara College where he studied under the renowned Leslie Poole. His paintings are grounded in realism, yet reflect his fascination for light and the mysterious moods of contemplation that it can create. His subject matter is varied with a vast range including local Vancouver scenes, boats, planes, trees, flowers and buildings. Lawrence’s art emphasizes light with an emotional impact which best reflects the mood of melancholy that exists between light and darkness; metaphorically the transition between life and death.
